Meet Nick Wayne Parents, Buddy Wayne And Shayna Wayne | Family Details

Publish date: 2024-06-10

Nick Wayne is a professional wrestler in AEW. He is the son of the late wrestler Buddy Wayne and his wife Shayna Wayne. Wyane is a third-generation wrestler with wrestling ancestors (father and maternal grandparents).

His father and mother fostered his enthusiasm in the ring from the start. The aviator’s father is no longer present to celebrate his son’s achievement, but he did leave him with a legacy to continue on. When Nick was 11 years old, his father died, leaving his mother to nurture him into a fine young man.

The former DEFY World Champion Nick Finely was born on July 10, 2005, in Seattle, Washington, however, he is better known by his ring name “Nick Wayne.” Wayne made his professional wrestling debut in 2018 and has since wrestled for Without A Cause, Lucha Libre Volcanica, and Invasion Championship Wrestling.

Darby Allin, a wrestler and friend, offered him an AEW contract when he was 16 years old on February 12, 2022. At the time, Nick was still a student at Cascade High School. So, once he graduates from high school and reaches the age of 18, he will be able to progress from an apprentice to a professional wrestler.

On July 12, 2023 (two days after his 18th birthday), he made his AEW Dynamite debut but was defeated by Swerve Strickland. He joins superstars such as Sting, Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, and Adam Cole, to name a few.

Nick Wayne’s Parents: Buddy Wayne And Shayna

Wayne’s father, Buddy Wayne, is a retired wrestler, and Wayne’s mother, Shayna, is a model. They married in the early 2000s. Three months after his death, on September 17, 2017, she shared a selfie of herself with her spouse and stated that they had been together for over a decade.

“3 months… 13 years…today,” she wrote. “I’m at a loss for words.”

Buddy’s real name is Steve Finley. Wayne, Nick Wayne’s father, made his professional wrestling debut for All-Star Wrestling in Vancouver in 1985. The late wrestler was well-known in the Pacific Northwest and worked for companies like Championship Wrestling USA.

He wowed viewers in WCW and WWE with his skills from the 1990s until 2003, joining the ranks of Shawn Michaels, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Edge. Buddy Wayne Academy was founded in 2006 in Everett, Washington, by Buddy and his wife, Shayna. Despite diminishing his ring appearances, he never formally retired from wrestling, but he was a seasoned show on the stage whenever he entered.

It’s hardly surprising that pro wrestlers’ families emerge in the plot of the show, and his wife is no exception. Shayna Edwards was born into a wrestling family; her uncle, Moondog Ed Moretti, was a wrestling legend. She is a model, and she frequently shares photos from her modeling engagements on Instagram.

He Was Detained with His Mother at the Airport

Wayne and his mother were detained in Iceland and forced to make an emergency landing on July 24, 2022, on their way home from the former’s PROGRESS Wrestling debut in Frankfurt, Germany. The reason was a bomb threat scribbled on a bathroom mirror. Authorities questioned his mother, Shayna, presuming she had a cosmetics kit from which the threats were written. The wrestler later confirmed that the mother-son team had safely returned home.

Wayne’s Father Died When He Was 11 Years Old

Buddy Wayne, Nick’s father, died of a heart attack when he was in his twenties on June 17, 2017. The late wrestler had a history of heart problems, having undergone open heart surgery in 2009 and another in 2013. His death surprised and grieved the family, leaving his wife Shayna to raise their only son, who was 11 years old at the time.

Wayne’s wrestling career is an unmistakable homage to his wrestler father. According to sources, Nick began wrestling seriously at the age of nine and used to practice with his father. He would make his wrestling debut on April 27, 2018, at the age of 13, two years after his father’s death.

Nick Wayne, Did He Disown His Mother?

On October 18, 2023, during a Dynamite episode, Wayne sat down with his mother and the show’s host, Jim Ross, and appeared to reject his parents. They discussed his abandonment of longtime friend Darby Allin at WrestleDream on October 1, siding with Christian Cage during Cage vs. Allin for the AEW TNT Championship.

In the interview, Nick stated that he had found a new “fatherly figure,” referring to Cage, and that the latter was a “better father figure than his father ever was.” Christian then appeared, seeking to take Wyane with him. “You’re a terrible mother,” he shouted as his mother, Shayna, cried and tried to stop him.

She responded with a smack. She also quickly released the interview footage on Instagram. While it appears to be authentic, aficionados of the theatrical wrestling tale refer to it as a dramatic backdrop for a future storyline.
